First of all I want to thank you for coming to my website. It was created and is maintained by my son in law, Chris.  He thought that I should write a journal after each of my walks.  He suggested that in 2002, and he has been doing this for me since that time.  Thank you, Chris, for keeping this up and for getting my journals on the website as soon as I get them written. I know that isn't always easy!

This is my 12th year of walking and fundraising for the fight against breast cancer.  In 2008 I achieved my personal goals of reaching my 100th long distance walk for breast cancer, completing over 5000 official walk miles for breast cancer and surpassing my goal of raising over $1m (actually $1,026,000).  So what are my goals for 2009?  I will be walking in 9 Avon Walks for Breast Cancer (40 miles) and 5 Breast Cancer 3Days (60 miles).......660 miles.  My financial goals are to raise as much as I can towards the next million!

If you would like me to wear a ribbon in honor/memory of someone, please send me their name.  I wear the banner of ribbons on my back every day.  I wear blue and white ribbons to honor my sponsors and pink ribbons with the names you want me to honor.  I wear the banner with pride and with a deep sense of responsibility to those I am honoring.

Please remind all of the women in your life about regular self exams and mammograms. Remember, men get breast cancer too.

Avon Walk--San Francisco--July 11-12, 2009

This will be the last journal for a while. I am not sure of my plans for the rest of the year. My husband, Bob, was diagnosed yesterday with stomach cancer that has spread to the liver. We are still in shock. We are going ahead this week with a family vacation that is celebrating our 50th anniversary which is in Dec. Thank you for your love.
