What began as a personal challenge to walk 60 miles in 3 days and raise $1700 in 1998, has become an even bigger challenge in 2005. My goal this year is to walk 6 of the Avon Walks for Breast Cancer, and 10 of the Breast Cancer 3Days (Susan G. Komen Foundation). My fundraising goal is to raise more than last year ($130,000) so that my total since 1998 will surpass $500,000. I will be walking 42 days, approximately 9 hours a day. While I am walking those 378 hours, 8027 women/men will be diagnosed with breast cancer---that is one person every 3 minutes. While I am walking those 378 hours 1720 women/men will die of breast cancer---that is one person every 14 minutes. My job of walking and fundraising is not done. Please join me in this fight. July 2, 2005--Update
I have made a couple of changes in my walks. I will be walking
in all 8 Avon Walks for Breast Cancer, and in 6 of the Breast Cancer 3•Days.
I have completed 7 so far, and next week in SF
I will be walking in my 50th long distance walk for breast cancer
since 1998. This year I have raised more than $95,000 for both
organizations, with a grand total of $545,000. I can hardly
believe this myself, and could never have imagined this when I did my
first walk in 1998. Thank you everyone for your support
